An illustration I did last week for Portland Monthly, for an article on Douglas Hofstader. Hofstader is a Pulitzer Prize-winning author for a book on self-referencing and the nature of consciousness titled Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid. He believes that humans become so entwined emotionally with one another that parts of us are copied into our loved one’s brains after we have perished.

Last week, the former art director of The Walrus contacted me about participating in a group show in Germany called 100 € SHOW . The concept of the show is for each artist to submit 5 pieces of artwork that they have laying around, such as sketches and quick pieces, rather than making new work. These are the 5 works that I chose. Some are recent and some are from a while ago.

We found out the other day that recently Martha Stewart used the freaky animal window that Colleen and I worked on a while ago as “inspiration” on her show. Colleen and I created the facial features for the creatures and worked with the in-store display team to create the little monsters.

Three new pieces for Buddhadharma Magazine, for the “First Thoughts” section, which consists of brief articles dealing with meditation, Buddhism and the like.

A piece I did this past weekend for Portland Mercury. It was for an article about a black cyclist who was pulled over by a white cop, for unknown reasons. The article suggests it was most likely fueled by racist motivations.
After a hiatus due to traveling, moving and working at Barneys, it felt good to finally be able to sit down and do some illustration work in my new studio!

A while ago, I posted some sketches I did for Barneys of a couple hosiery display illustrations. The art and creative directors reworked the concept to make it super simple and to use the same colors that are found in the cosmetic displays. Here is the final product. The illustrations will be in the hosiery displays in all the flagship stores, which is pretty exciting.
I think I’m installing these in the displays next week at the Madison store, so I will post a pic of the final product in action!
